dc.description.notes | This US journal article outlines the authors’ research into the correlation between drug and alcohol abuse and dating violence (DV), particularly physical DV, among young people (aged 14-24) who presented to an urban emergency department. Using various methodological approaches and daily calendar-based analyses, including the Time Line Follow Back (TLFB) measure, study results identified two recurring causes of the DV: "jealousy/rumors" and "angry/bad mood".<br/ ><br/ >Comparisons were made between sexes and the different types of substances used, and their impact on the severity of violence. Finally, the article recommends that DV interventions used in emergency departments should reflect common causes for DV among young people and focus on decreasing their substance use. | en |
