Notes:  Highlighting the lack of definitional consistency and valid abuse screening questionnaires as the major flaws in domestic violence research to date, this article reports on the development and validity of a new screening questionnaire, the Composite Abuse Scale (CAS). The limitations of existing measures are reviewed before the development of the CAS, and the results of a preliminary validation of the measure presented. Concludes that while the CAS, designed to measure types, frequency and consequences of domestic violence, is a more reliable measure for feminist definitions of partner abuse, it still requires further validation and evaluation.
