dc.description.notes | Discusses the methodology and results of a three-month pilot study of routine screening for domestic violence in the Emergency Department of Sutherland Hospital, Sydney. A background to the training and resources provided to staff for the purpose of the project, the screening process and aims of the pilot is provided and the main issues raised in the course of the study discussed. Difficulties with staff attendance at training sessions, problems raising sensitive issues in the emergency department setting and the need for developing clear protocols on how to deal with suspected cases of domestic violence were identified, amongst other things, as key issues and a ‘top down, bottom up’ approach that encourages both structure and staff involvement is advocated. | en |
