dc.description.notes | This provides a summary of the background and overview of family violence courts (FVCs) in South Australia. South Australia has 2 such courts, as part of an interagency approach to address family violence. Based on similar models in Duluth, USA and Hamilton, New Zealand, both courts operate in conjunction with Violence Intervention Programs (VIPs), which respond to male violence towards women in heterosexual relationships. The programmes place priority on the safety of women and children and offer specialised services to men who are in contact with criminal justice agencies, as well as services to the female current or ex-partners and any children. It gives an overview of the OCSAR study, which will conduct a statistical overview of the FVCs. Scoping of this project is underway and will be conducted in 2 parts. Part 1 will give data on the number of cases in the FVCs since 1 July 2002, the characteristics of defendants, their offences profiles, the duration from first court hearing to case outcomes and penalties. Part 2 will assess re-apprehension among those defendants processed through the FVCs and if possible, the VIPs to analyse whether these are different from their pre-court apprehension profiles. | en |
