Notes:	Issue <51> has subtitle: Journal of the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia. Looks at the experience of Alena Almassy as a migrant/refugee woman in Australia who is presently the President of the Association of Migrant Women with English as a Second Language and the Convenor of the Women's Network, at the ACT Multicultural Council. The brief interview outlines the legal, financial, cultural and language difficulties that a Non-English speaking woman experiences when first arriving in Australian and once settled. Discusses the importance of support groups, especially different ethnic groups and communities already established within Australia, for refugees and migrants coming into the country. Further discusses the barriers that NESB women face in situations of domestic violence where police procedures, services and legal rights are foreign and hence often inaccessible and confusing. Addresses the need for further government support for migrant communities in Australia and recognition of the importance of their role in the Australian community both politically and socially.
