dc.description.notes"February 2001"<br/ >This paper reports on an update of research on the likelihood of future delinquency and criminality committed by abused and neglected children. The study followed the cases of a study group of children with substantiated cases of child mistreatment and a comparison group with similar demographic characteristics. Arrest records were checked in 1988 when subjects averaged 26 years of age. The results were collated in 1994 when the average age of subjects was 32.5 years. It was found that people who had been abused or neglected as children were younger at first arrest, committed more violent crimes and were more likely to be arrested as juveniles and adults in comparison to the control group.en
