dc.description.notes | This article presents a US study which used a prospective design to assess the reliability and validity of the Domestic Violence Screening Instrument (DVSI). Literature review on the debate around risk assessment of future violence, in prediction research on mental disorder and violent behaviour, and the utility and predictive validity of clinical judgment versus actuarial risk assessment instruments, is provided. Analysis of the findings is based on a sample of 1,465 male domestic violence offenders selected consecutively over a 9-month period. Data on re-offending were collected in a 6-month follow-up from a sub-sample of 125 victims and from official records for all perpetrators during an 18-month follow-up period. The results suggest that the DVSI was administered reliably and give evidence of the concurrent, discriminant and predictive validity of the DVSI. Implications for further research and use of the DVSI are discussed. | en |
