Notes: | Presents the methods and findings of a qualitative US study which explored women’s perceptions of the various barriers to seeking police assistance for intimate partner violence. Key factors identified by participants included fear of reprisal, personal/situational factors such as cultural beliefs, fear of police and past negative experiences with police and/or the legal system. A ‘wish list’, in which participants identified ideal police behaviours and responses to domestic violence, is also presented and discussed. |
