Journal is supported by Faculty of Law, Monash University.<br/ >Despite constituting 24% of the total Northern Territory female population, in the past two years Aboriginal women have comprised 70% of the clients of the Alice Springs Domestic Violence Service, a significant proportion of whom are from rural bush communities. Reports the outcomes of consultations with the women of ten large remote Aboriginal communities and examines the specific issues and difficulties faced by Aboriginal women experiencing domestic violence in rural communities. Outcomes include; to live safely in their communities, to have a safe place to flee, to have quick police access, to obtain legal advice about restraining orders, to involve the families of both the wife and husband to take responsibility for his violence and her safety, and to foster a broad community approach to prevent domestic violence.en
