Authors: Butts-Taylor, Andrea
Keywords: Statistics;Regional rural and remote areas;Housing;Indigenous issues
Year: 2007
Publisher: Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics
Citation: 85-002-XPE
Notes:  General Overview: :This report provides information about the characteristics of women and children using shelters for abused women and the services that were available to them.

Discussion: :Statistics Canada used a survey of residential services for abused women to collect information about the shelter residents and the services offered by the facilities. Some of the information concerns all of the admissions to shelters during the year 1 April 2005 – 31 March 2006, while some information relates to a “snapshot day”, 19 April 2006. There is a particular focus on shelters on reserves and in rural and remote areas.
