The authors explore the feelings of loss in children who experience abuse and family violence. It is proposed that loss and grief approaches offer valuable resources for the recovery of abused children. Minors who had been subjected to multiple forms of abuse and who commenced and concluded therapy in Australians Against Child Abuse programmes participated in this research. The loss of safety, a childhood, a sense of self and personal agency, and trust are examined from the children’s own words.en
