This journal article responds to an article by Stuart et al. which supports a hypothesis that domestic violence perpetrators who receive brief alcohol-related intervention as well as a 40-hour group batterer program will engage in less frequent and heavy alcohol consumption and less aggressive or violent behaviour. This article endorses the well-known association between drug and/or alcohol misuse and incidents of domestic violence, therefore emphasising the need for improved and increased interventions.<br/ ><br/ >Day identifies varied perspectives on which are the most effective intervention methods and styles, including motivational interviewing, psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic approaches. Day concludes with a reflection on Stuart et al.’s perspective, which foregrounds the importance of collaborative and client-centred interventions.en
