This article explores the use of groups in working with women who have lived with domestic violence. It outlines the ways in which groups can provide a supportive environment for women to share their experiences, to recognise and celebrate their strengths and to challenge the dominant messages about domestic violence.<br/ >Draws on experience gained in conducting 12 support groups for women who had experienced domestic violence. Nine of these groups have been conducted in English with participants from both Anglo Australian backgrounds and non-English speaking backgrounds. The other groups have been conducted in other languages (two in Vietnamese and one in Turkish). These were conducted with the assistance of an interpreter and practitioners who worked with these communities and spoke the language.en
