Statistical information regarding the prevalence of violence against teenage girls and young adult women is provided, although the authors caution that study findings vary depending on definitions used and assessment metrics applied.<br/ ><br/ >The authors discuss consequences of dating violence for teenage girls and young women, including negative impacts on mental health, pregnancy, school problems, medical health problems, and serious injury resulting from physical or sexual violence. They are also more likely to experience future victimisation. The review considered the experience of adolescent girls as perpetrators of dating violence. Drawing on a social-ecological model, the authors discuss prevention efforts used to prevent dating violence and identify some specific programs.
