Notes:	This paper is focussed on domestic violence and its effects on children. After considering the gendered dimensions of domestic violence and some key issues associated with shame, blame and responsibility, the author considers how children’s interests might be recognised in ways which do not further victimise women. An account of the common effects of exposure to domestic violence is provided. The variables of gender, class and ethnicity are also analysed in terms of their effects on children’s lives. Interventions that attempt to strengthen children’s resilience to such violence are emphasised with the author cautioning workers against adopting practice models which individualise and pathologies children’s experiences.
