Notes: | This US article refers to the research observation that arrests not leading to convictions may still receive punishment through other forms of sanctions. With a sample of 1,427 domestic violence cases and interviews with prosecutors, this presents the findings from a quantitative examination of this observation on the implications that case disposition by means of probation violations is of value. The findings recognise the need to analyse earlier, informal decision-making points prior to sentencing. It suggests that cases rejected or dismissed but continued by prosecutors for further action such as probation violations should not be considered as attrition |
