A review of the report of a collaborative 4-year study by Barnardos Australia and the University of Sydney in NSW. Four separate research methodologies were used to look at the practice issues involved with child protection in situations where there is concurrent domestic violence. Study 1 analysed responses by the NSW Department of Community Services to domestic violence. Study 2 involved focus group interviews of practitioners who worked with women experiencing domestic violence and their children to discover effective practices and problems in these areas. In Study 3 women who experienced domestic violence gave their observations of the impact it had on their children, the ways in which they protected their children and the supports needed to help their children deal with the violence and in Study 4 children were asked about their experiences of domestic violence and what supports they thought most useful. Key findings of the report are listed and key themes of good practice are summarised.en
