This article examines the need and opportunities for improved integration of domestic violence and child protection services in the Australian context. The authors briefly review recent studies which demonstrate the high co-occurrence of domestic violence and child maltreatment. A case for integration is presented by examining how the different service approaches may conflict in meeting the safety needs of the child and mother as well as a discussion of increasing policy and funding mandates to partner across services. Practice-oriented collaboration theory was used to examine potential barriers to effective partnership, including trust, common aims, power imbalance, and communication. The authors conclude with a discussion of how leadership and organisations can work towards effective cross-service partnerships by applying a model of organisational change.en
