General Overview: This United States-based study of older women attempts to bridge the gaps in knowledge about what older women want from their communities in terms of addressing domestic violence domestic violence. This research was undertaken in order to improve community responses and enhance victim safety.<br/ ><br/ >Results: The study found that older women would consider family and friends when disclosing or not disclosing domestic violence. They may also consider turning to religious support for help, or notifying police. However, the participants feared that both religious leaders and police would respond inadequately or in a way that did further harm. The participants were aware of domestic violence services but did not feel that the service providers would necessarily understand the particular situation older women experiencing violence face.<br/ ><br/ >In terms of solutions, participants suggested that non-physical abusive behaviours be included in a definition of domestic violence. They suggested that information and support services be put in places frequented by older women, and that older women’s support groups be available.en
