Notes:  Overview: This article reports on a study on the co-morbidity of child neglect and domestic violence. The study examined all cases investigated for child neglect in a Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA in 1999.

Methods: The research examined 2 350 cases of child neglect, all cases for a single county in Jefferson 1999. For these cases, information was available about the substantiation decision, presence or absence of domestic violence in the home and whether or not the case was opened.

Results: The research confirms the link between child neglect and domestic violence (comorbidity found in 29% of cases), with more problems identified in children's interpersonal functioning and a higher risk rating by workers where domestic violence is also present. Family violence was also significantly correlated with more severe neglect and with limited social support for the family.
