There is a trend that deems communities, rather than individuals, responsible for ensuring victims’ safety and rendering abusers accountable for their violence. The Domestic Abuse Intervention Program (DAIP) is a coordinated community response operating in Minnesota, consistent with the aforementioned philosophy. This US study evaluates the effectiveness of the Enhanced DAIP to reduce domestic violence against women according to rates of recidivism. Domestic violence offenders who entered the DAIP Men’s Nonviolence Program between 1994 and 1998 – that is, before and after the project enhancements – provided the data. Lower rates of recidivism were found after the project was implemented. It was also revealed that non-re-offenders who attended the programme because of a court mandate managed to complete the programme.en
