dc.description.notes | This US study examined offender demographics, risk and protective factors, and treatment program variables among 4095 male and female domestic violence perpetrators who were court-ordered to attend a treatment program. Data was collected from approved domestic violence treatment providers. Of the offenders, 81% were male and 68% completed treatment. The authors also examined differences between offenders who completed or did not complete treatment and factors that predicted completion with a focus on gender variations. Women, in general, were significantly more likely to complete treatment than men. Both women and men who were older, employed, and living with a partner at the time of treatment discharge were more likely to complete. For men, additional factors contributing to the likelihood of completion, included being white, living with a partner at the time of the offense, being a first-time offender, and not having prior success with treatment. Policy and practice recommendations are discussed. | en |
