This article presents findings from a US study that examined the relationship between domestic violence police reports and the outcome of major football sporting events. The researchers found that when a team was strongly predicted to win and subsequently lost, there was a 10% increase in domestic violence reports. This relationship was not found when the outcome was expected to be close and the team lost, or when the team won and was expected to lose.
