Notes:  General Overview:This article summarises the main findings of the Personal Safety Survey:conducted in 2005 by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and published in 2006. It was the first national survey to compare men’s and women’s experiences of safety and violence.
* with regard to the most recent incident of assault experienced since the age of 15, for women the main perpetrators were current or previous partners (46.1%), while only 14.2% of men were assaulted by current or previous partners
Conclusions:The ABS survey shows gender differences in the experiences of violence, with men most likely to be subjected to violence from a male stranger, while women most likely to be subjected to violence from a partner or family member. It concludes that more women than men experienced violence in their relationships.
