dc.description.notes | Presents the methodology and results of a study directed at investigating the self-reported happiness and exposure to domestic violence of Filipina women married to Australian men. Recent research into the extent and demographics of Filipina-Australian marriages is discussed and key cultural values of relevance to the research, such as amor propio (sense of honour and personal dignity) are explained. The concept of intergenerational transfer is also examined as are some of the social and economic factors which have been found to influence the incidence of violence in Filipina-Australian marriages. Concludes that while stereotypes of such marriages are unhelpful, the extent and particular nature of violence that occurs must be recognised and responded to appropriately. | en |
