Notes: | Outlines the research methodology and findings of a project aimed at exploring some of the issues that arise where domestic violence is a factor in child custody and contact disputes in the U.K. A background to the conflict between pro-contact practices and the priorities of domestic violence services is provided and it is suggested that many of these problems have arisen as a result of supported contact services not being developed with concerns of safety and security in mind. It is argued that higher vigilance contact arrangements do not necessarily provide a panacea and that if the safety and protection of children is to be ensured, the risk of abuse and the possibility of indirect contact arrangements must be recognised by child contact centres. |
