This article reports the findings of a study which interviewed 31 members of the Victorian judiciary, homicide prosecutors, practicing defence counsel and key stakeholders about the homicide law reforms in Victoria. The study specifically examines the impact of 2005 reforms which abolished partial defence of provocation and installed a new offence of defensive homicide as means to address the experiences of women who kill their partners in the context of intimate partner violence. The article details the reform process and initial results. This is followed by a critical analysis of the effectiveness of the reforms, concluding that the results for female victims of partner violence are mixed.en
