Highlights the legal injustices faced by women who kill their violent partners in self defence. Uses the example of Heather Osland, found guilty of murdering her husband who physically, sexually and psychologically abused her for 13 years. Argues that the legal system fails to adequately address the issues faced by women who have experienced domestic violence and their desperate need to defend themselves. Argues that laws of homicide do not account for gender differences such as a woman’s justifiable fear in the context of domestic violence, and their lack of conditioning in using violence to defend themselves. Discusses a two -tiered campaign ‘Women Who Kill In Self Defence’ which reviews legal definitions of self defence and the limited legal options available, with the aim to achieve reform. The second tier is aiming to free Heather Osland from her 14 year prison sentence.en
