This article examines the policies, legislation, funding and reports examining Indigenous family violence and child abuse in Australia. In particular, the author critically analyses the ‘emergency measures’ launched by the Australian government in 2007 in the context of effective intervention requiring long term investment and commitment as well as community engagement. This analysis also considers recommendations from previous government reports, reflection on implementation progress and consideration of Indigenous communities’ initiatives. The author concludes by outlining a conceptual framework to address family violence.en
