Notes:  This article highlights the significant risks of neglect and mistreatment children face in the context of parents’ mental illness, substance misuse of and domestic violence. It discusses the introduction of Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) in the UK to increase interagency and multiagency collaboration with joint protocols for safeguarding children. The article reports on the authors’ study in this area, involving practitioners from adult mental health and children’s social care agencies. The authors detail their findings about interagency joint protocols for safeguarding children in relation to the increased knowledge, access to service provision, and the significance of good working relationships between practitioners across services which the protocols facilitate.
