dc.description.notes | This article reports on findings from a US study that explored the relationship between intimate partner sexual assault, femicide, suicidality and substance use. The study specifically explored the risk factors for femicide and suicidality as well as the timing of substance misuse by comparing a group of women who have been physically and sexually assaulted by their intimate partner with a group of women who had only been physically assaulted by their partner. The findings indicated that women who reported sexual assault were significantly more likely to report substance misuse, risk factors for femicide and threatening or attempting suicide. The authors discuss how their findings compare with other research studies, followed by implications for practice and policy. | en |
