Notes:  Discusses the methodology and findings of a US study which examined the prevalence of intimate partner violence amongst active duty military women, both during their lifetime and during service, and identified various risk factors associated with the abuse. The results were compared with a demographically similar civilian population in a nearby geographical region and found to be comparable. Similarly, the overlap between physical, sexual and emotional abuse revealed in the research was consistent with prior research on domestic violence victims generally. The need for further development and evaluation of efforts to address intimate violence within the military is emphasised.
