Outlines the methodology and results of a US study conducted to assess the risk of pre-invasive and invasive cervical cancer in women experiencing intimate partner violence, specifically the association between physical/sexual violence and the development of cervical neoplasia. A background to the many other short and long-term physical and mental health consequences of domestic violence is also provided. Contends that while further research is needed, the results suggest that a relationship between intimate partner violence and higher grade cervical lesions does exist.
