IPV is a risk factor for mental health problems, but women receiving mental health services are rarely asked about IPV. Victim blaming attitudes persist both in the general community and among therapists. Women with a history of IPV are more likely to have attempted suicide. Victim blaming may contribute to the increased risk of suicide. The author suggests further education about IPV for professionals as well as encouragement and empowerment for abused women. | en |
