General Overview: :This Australian journal article examines published research and finds that the experience of intimate partner violence is an important contribution factor for suicidal thoughts and behaviour.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion: :This short article reviews some published literature regarding the effects of intimate partner violence (IPV), particularly regarding mental health. IPV is a risk factor for mental health problems, but women receiving mental health services are rarely asked about IPV. Victim blaming attitudes persist both in the general community and among therapists. Women with a history of IPV are more likely to have attempted suicide. Victim blaming may contribute to the increased risk of suicide. The author suggests further education about IPV for professionals as well as encouragement and empowerment for abused women.en
