This article presents findings from a study that used data on Australian women from the World Health Organization’s World Mental Health Survey Initiative to examine the prevalence and relationship of lifetime experiences of mental health issues and gender-based violence (GBV), including domestic violence and sexual assault. Findings from the study indicated that 27% of 1218 women reported experiencing at least one type of GBV in their lifetime and that experiencing GBV was significantly related to experiences of mental health disorders.en
