dc.description.notes | Overview: This Australian paper presents an overview of all available academic research into men’s experiences of same-sex intimate partner violence.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion: A literature search carried out in 2007 identified 26 original research studies dealing, at least partially, with men’s experiences of same-sex intimate partner violence. Twenty-two studies had been conducted in the US and two were from Australia. All the studies were produced during the decade between 1996 and 2006, although most were published after 1999.<br/ ><br/ > * help seeking, support and perceptions.<br/ ><br/ >The paper concludes that male same-sex relationships experience intimate partner violence at a high rate and that attempts at dealing with the situation are insufficient. In discussing the Australian context, the authors state that a great deal more research is required to reach an understanding of the above points in order to achieve “visibility” of the problem as it exists in Australian society. It will only be then that male same-sex intimate partner violence may be confronted and dealt with. | en |
