The NDV project was implemented in South Australia in March 1999 to reduce repeat victimisation in domestic violence incidents. The main stakeholders are the South Australian Police and the Crime Prevention Unit of the Attorney-General’s Department. Police training was provided to report or arrest the offender; help victims to find accommodation; remove the offender from the home; and inform both parties of the available options. Local police patrols monitor both victims and offenders, and an alarm is given to the victims who are at greater risk. Besides achieving the intended objectives, the project contributed to the recognition of domestic violence as a community problem and an increase in child abuse notifications.en
