Notes: | Literature review of current research on older women (aged 50+), their experiences of violence and the nature of violence. While older women are not accessing services, a Phone In Against Sexual Assault found that services had failed to meet the needs of older women. Although there is an absence of older women's stories, theoretical considerations which arise from the limited literature are discussed. This includes the problem of language and connotations. For example, the term 'elder abuse' is not gendered, does not adequately address the needs of older women, and fails to make perpetrators accountable. A project by CASA House is providing women with the opportunity to discuss their experiences and personal situations with a means to produce better service provision. |
