Notes: | Describes the methodology, results and limitations of a study aimed at examining perceived causes of suicide attempts amongst South Asian women attending GP outpatient clinics and community organizations in the London area. Both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis were used to explore the role of marital violence, depression and other family factors in contributing to suicide. The findings indicate that unhappy family situations, particularly those involving marital violence and depression, were significant risk factors for suicide attempts and it is suggested that further research in this area be undertaken in order for more effective prevention and intervention strategies to be developed. |
