Title: | Public secrets/private pain: Difficulties encountered by victim/survivors of sexual abuse in rural communities |
Other Titles: | Women Against Violence: An Australian Feminist Journal |
Authors: | Taylor, S Caroline |
Year: | 2004 |
Citation: | No 15 |
Notes: | The challenges within a rural domain are identified and articulated. Sexual violence in the rural communities is explored by utilising a case study and vignettes obtained either directly from victim/survivors or from the research in issues of sexual assault. Domestic violence and sexual violence in rural communities can exist without appropriate intervention or censure. They can be a place where victims of these crimes can face a very lonely battle and find themselves stigmatised and rebuked for seeking help and for speaking the truth. |
