Women constitute the majority of the world’s refugee population. Summarises the problems which refugee women experience, including rape and sexual violence which occurs during and while fleeing war, and once they have entered refugee camps. Implications for refugee women are discussed, including emotional and physical trauma, and issues of culture and religion which make it difficult for women to disclose. Other obstacles occurring in resettlement include dealing with trauma and living in a new society. Men are also victimised, resulting in anger and frustration, and as a way of regaining some power and control, they may resort to domestic violence. Recommendations are made to address the issues on both a global and community level, and highlight the need for service providers to be aware of the issues facing refugees.en
