Provides a review of a recently published collection of essays, Restorative Justice and Family Violence, edited by Heather Strang and John Braithwaite. A brief introduction to the growth of restorative justice paradigms in legal and social services, its various definitions and the difficulties encountered in applying its principals to situations of family violence is provided and the key criticisms of restorative justice models raised by the text are summarised. Some of the arguments in favour of alternative approaches to criminal justice issues are presented and the central themes running through the various essays are identified.en
