| dc.description.notes | Presents the aims, methodology, results and conclusions of a study which assessed the effectiveness of the Rights Focused Advocacy Model (RFAM). The RFAM is a strategy employed by the Aged Rights Advocacy Service in Adelaide to assist in preventing and/or protecting elderly people from intimate violence. The introduction outlines the principles underlying the model and the role of the advocate and the client in implementing this relatively unique approach. Some of its advantages are illustrated through the use of a case study. The retrospective casework schema and data gathering processes utilised in the study are then described and the results reported. Concludes that the Rights Focused Advocacy Model is effective in assisting older people to overcome abuse because it offers a holistic response that recognises the choices older people make for themselves and the variety of support networks available to them. Through maintaining a rights-based focus, the control of the older person is prioritised and appropriate interventions are implemented. | en |
