However, they are not granted refugee rights because of their means of arrival in Australia. This paper comments on a pre-election forum held in March 2003 about the rights of migrant and refugee women in the current conditions of hostility towards Muslims. Policies such as mandatory detention of asylum seekers and the temporality of protection visas were challenged.
