dc.description.notes | This is a response to Campbell’s article on helping women understand their risk in intimate partner violence. It argues that, although separation is an important risk factor for lethal violence, there are other overlooked risks that women face when separating from a violent partner that should be considered in research and interventions. These include: high risk for stress, mental health and health problems; increased conflict over children and concern for child safety; as well as the economic, structural, psychological and social barriers to seeking help. It also refers to gaps in the literature that need to be addressed. It finds the literature on separation for women has been developed in isolation from the victimisation literature and the victimisation literature has referred little to the separation literature. It also argues that information is needed to understand the contextual differences within which separation experiences take place. | en |
