dc.description.notes | The Stop the Violence Project:is a multifaceted strategy to help women with disabilities as part of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children. Australian government funding will be used to produce an evidence base to enable restructure of the current system and to improve the service response to women with a disability and their children.<br/ ><br/ >A National Symposium on Violence against Women and Girls with Disabilities:was held in Sydney in October 2013 as one component of the project. This meeting sought to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women with disabilities, and engage expert decision-makers and high-level stakeholders in collaboration in policy development and reform of service provision.<br/ ><br/ >This discussion paper was prepared for participants of the symposium and provides a summary of the evidence gathered by the project. It includes an overview of the project and background to the issue of violence against women and girls with disabilities. It also describes the process used to gather information. Importantly, it identifies principles and strategies needed to improve good policy and practice in this sector. | en |
