General Overview: :This article canvasses features of various Australian responses which aim to meet the needs of children living with domestic violence and identifies gaps in current service provision.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion: :In this article, the author examines Australian service responses to the needs of children who are affected by family violence. It describes a system for categorizing service responses, based on proximity to the child's exposure to violence, which is explained diagrammatically. In doing this, gaps in service provision are identified and the problems which this causes are discussed. The ad-hoc, short-term, small, locally-restricted and poorly funded nature of most interventions for children is critiqued. The article calls for system-wide, government-funded intervention which addresses the comprehensive array of children's needs and also recognises the disadvantage caused by geographic isolation, lack of services and the lack of cultural safety in many mainstream programs for children.en
