dc.description.notesOutlines the development, implementation and collated results of the Western Australian domestic violence prevention 'Freedom from Fear' Campaign, a ten-year community education programme aimed at raising awareness of, and encouraging perpetrators and potential perpetrators to seek help, for violent behaviour in intimate relationships. Introduces intimate partner violence as a 'major public health and community well-being issue', both in Australia and abroad, and highlights some of the difficulties associated with research and intervention in the field. The 'Freedom from Fear' campaign is presented as a way of complementing criminal justice interventions, which rarely succeed in removing women's fear of future violence, through the provision of perpetrator counselling programmes, a Men's Domestic Violence Helpline and the distribution of self-help booklets. The goals, strategies, costs and methods for reaching the target audience are outlined and some of the issues which arose in the course of executing and delivering the programme are discussed. An overview of the formative research conducted prior to developing the campaign is also provided. Concludes that evaluations undertaken have confirmed the campaign strategy as effective and campaign objectives in future phases of implementation are listed.en
