dc.description.notes | This article presents the findings from an Australian a study which used secondary data from New South Wales (NSW) public hospital emergency room (ER) departments and NSW police statistics between 2003 and 2008. The study examined the relationships between the number of people who attended the emergency department for acute alcohol problems and the number of police incidents related to assaults including domestic and non-domestic related assaults. The authors found a short-term relationship between increased ER attendance for alcohol to increased assaults, this was particularly significant among young people. | en |
