Notes: | This US article details how children who are exposed to intimate partner violence (IPV) face greater risks of symptoms of traumatic stress and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) emerging. Many of these children who witness IPV also witness other traumatic events, further increasing the risk of heightened trauma responses. The article details some psychological and behavioural manifestations of the young children’s experiences of multiple traumas, while acknowledging that limited research exists on the impacts on their overall functioning. Finally, the authors outline the importance of doing a thorough assessment of children’s trauma history before beginning treatment. |
